Highway Maintenance Technician

Description - The Technician role is responsible for delivering summer maintenance operations and winter snow and ice control associated with the asset management contract of the Herb Gray Parkway in Windsor. this includes operation of snowplows, performing summer maintenance on highway assets and maintaining parks and trails. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Operate winter maintenance equipment such as snowplows, salt spreaders, sidewalk cleaners, combination units as required - Perform road patrol to monitor road and weather conditions during winter months - Maintain and repair highway assets such as guiderail, signs, fences and roadway surfaces and bridges - Maintain parks and trails by mowing grass, maintaining vegetation and cleaning trails - Perform minor maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment - Complete daily paperwork and documentation as required - Perform maintenance, cleaning and repairs to facility buildings and grounds - Provide traffic control to accidents, routine maintenance and road closures - Investigate and report on customer and public complaints - Perform other related assignments and special projects as directed QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will possess the following education and experience: - Highway maintenance experience demonstrated with 2+ years' experience in a public roads environment - Demonstrated experience in highway snow and ice control including thorough knowledge of plowing and salting procedures, materials and concepts - Work experience on a road crew is a definite asset - High School diploma or equivalent; additional related training/certification is a plus - Must possess a valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license. Class AZ license is an asset. The ideal candidate will possess the following personal characteristics and competencies: - Excellent skill in the operation of various highway maintenance vehicles and equipment - Strong work ethic and attention to detail - Clean driving record - Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing - Good customer service skills - Must be able to lift and carry 50-60 pounds - Good knowledge and ability to perform minor equipment repairs and maintenance - Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends if needed to respond to emergency calls and weather-related operations
